Bob's Bio

Bob Wise has been involved with the training of gas technicians for over thirty years.  His training experience began while employed by the Southern California Gas Co. where he helped train plumbers, HVAC contractors, fire departments and home inspectors on the basic principles of gas fired appliances, along with the fundamental characteristics of natural gas, combustion, venting and safety procedures for the safe handling of gases.

Upon leaving SoCalGas, Bob was employed by Fireplace Manufacturers Inc. (FMI) where he was the National Training Director and Technical Services Manager.  Prior to their acquisition by DESA, FMI moved him to Fredericksburg, VA to oversee and resolve technical problems with the company’s largest customers.  After FMI was purchased by DESA Bob was again asked to assume the role as gas appliances training director as well as regional sales representative for the East Coast.

Robert eventually left DESA to become the National Training Director for a major national fireplace distributor.  In this role, he provided over 1400 individuals training on both wood and gas hearth equipment.  This week long, hands-on training included installing both wood and gas stoves and fireplaces in mock-up situations with varying roof pitch scenarios and venting and termination configurations.  Two and one half days were utilized to troubleshoot and correct problems associated with both gas and wood burning appliances.

Additionally, Bob taught classes at every HPBA EXPO since 1999.  These classes include NFI Wood and Gas Review, Advantages of Gas Hearth Appliances and the Advantages of Burning Wood Stoves.

Bob served two terms on the Hearth Education Board of Governors, including four years as president.  While acting as president, the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) was founded and organized.  This effort was the first to gain national recognition as a legitimate certification program for pellet, wood burning and gas hearth appliances.  In 2006, he was given the Outstanding Leadership Award by the HEF.

In 2005 Bob opened his own company as a retailer and installer of hearth products in the upstate of South Carolina and while operating this business became involved with the training for two major fireplace manufacturers

2015 Robert closed his business and became affiliated with CVC Coaching as an instructor for gas hearth equipment, both in the classroom and the field.  Through CVC Coaching Bob offers custom tailored gas training programs to address the needs of individual businesses.
